Registration is now open for my new Creative Mixed Media Journaling Techniques class! This new class will begin on Monday June 9, 2008 and will run for 12 weeks.

All the details on the lessons for this class and how to register can be found by clicking here.

InspiRED Journal

Took a break from working on the Creative Mixed Media Journaling Techniques class to put together a new journal:

Outside

Red is not a color I usually work in very much but when I came across that metal inspired tag when I was browsing the card and gift store I had to buy it and put it in a journal.  The inspired tag and skeleton key are attached to the journal with a red satin ribbon and can be used as a place holder or bookmark for the inside.  More photos of the inside are in the shop here.

I'll be back in a couple of days with more class sneak peeks and an announcement about when registration for the new class will open.

Have a great day!

New Journals

Remember the textured surface in yesterday's post that I showed?  Well now it's been turned into these two journals:

and this one:

and this one has a very fun fantasy theme inside.  Photos are in the shop.

I mentioned a few posts ago that I was involved in a secret swap with the BBEST etsy team that I'm on.  Well today the mailman brought me my swap package from my secret swap partner and I am over the moon about it:

See the little cocker spaniel charm!  Don't you just love it?!  This charm bracelet was made for me by Kathleen who has a shop on Etsy called Figments by Kathleen.  She does the most wonderful work.

Don't forget to leave a comment on my previous post to be entered in the giveaway that I'm having!

Weekend projects & a give away!

Well I don't know what the weather is like where you are but here on the East Coast there is no sign of spring as far as I can see.  So in need of some bright colors to ward off the chill in the air I decided to make my own pile of spring colors...
Fabricstack
Lesson 5/6 of the Creative Mixed Media Journaling Techniques includes a section on my method for easy no fuss fabric dyeing and these are the samples from that.   That definitely feels much more springlike than the snowflakes falling outside my window!

I also worked with some lace:

and some yummy silk velvet fat quarters:

Lesson 5/6 is now in the hands of my official lesson tester and 7/8 is well underway.  Something I'm working on for that lesson:
Surface
yup that's right, a textured tissue surface for the outside of a journal.   Lesson 7/8 of this new class is going to include a section on how to create these surfaces and turn them into journals.    I'll be making an announcement in the next few weeks about when registration for this class will open.  I originally anticipated not being able to run it until September but it looks like I'll be ready to run it in June (not to worry though, it will also still run in September too).  Stay tuned for more details on that to come.

And now the good stuff - let's do a giveaway!  It's been a while since I've given something away.  Leave me a comment on this post between now and Wednesday and I'll choose 3 names from all the comments.  Those three people will get a goodie bag that includes a piece of the silk velvet that I just dyed along with some of the lace.

Good luck!

Mail

I pulled this gorgeous postcard from Lise out of my mailbox the other day:

Thank you Lise, it really brightened my day!

I've been in the studio non stop this week working on the Creative MM Journaling Techniques class.  I had to put working on lessons 5&6 on hold for a day or two until some supplies arrive but I'm hoping to have it all finished and delivered to Sandy for testing by the end of the weekend.  Sandy as you know is my official lesson tester for this class and I'm finding her help and feedback invaluable.  While I'm waiting for supplies though I skipped right over to lessons 7&8 and I've got a couple sneak peaks for you:

Sneak2
I can't wait to finish writing this class and run it, it's going to be a lot of fun!

In the meantime though don't forget that registration for the classes Journal Making for the Fiber Artist  and Mixed Media Surfaces for the Fiber Artist  are now open.

and now I'm heading back into the studio!

Sneak peeks and another online class open for registration!

I've been working on the lessons for weeks 5,6&7 of the Mixed Media Journaling Techniques Class and I thought I'd give you a few sneak peeks.   This class is tentatively scheduled to start in September.  You can join my newsletter group to be notified when registration opens for this class.

I am having a lot of fun putting this class together!  I'll have some more sneak peeks for you in a few days.

Meanwhile I have decided to run my Mixed Media Surfaces for the Fiber Artist class.  The class will start on 5/6/08 and runs for 5 weeks.  This workshop will explore using a wide variety of materials and supplies that today’s textile artist can use to create new and innovative surfaces to stitch on.    This class is sure to be a lot of fun as we create a wide range of beautiful mixed media surfaces using items such as tissue paper, gel mediums, soy silk, paper towels, silk caps or hankies, mulberry bark, cling wrap and so much more!  All the lesson details and information on registering are on my website here.

Once you sign up and pay for the class I will email you a supply list and an invite to a special yahoo group.  The lessons will be made available to students on a weekly basis beginning Tuesday May 6, 2008.   You’ll post your questions and photo’s in the yahoo group and you’ll be able to interact with the other students as well. I’ll be available for questions and feedback throughout the day and of course I’m always available through direct email for those not comfortable posting questions in a group setting.  You don't need to have a blog to participate in this class, you just need to have access to email.   Visit my website here to register!

swaps, gifts, journals and more!

The VAST theme challenge for March is Green and so I created a green journal for it:
Greenoutisde
This has a gorgeous glass button embellishment on it.  More photos here.

These two are actually gifts.  One is for someone who did something really nice for me and one is for a swap with the BBEST group:
Goutside
It's a secret swap so the person won't know that they're getting it until it shows up at their door.  The insides of these are filled with colorful pages and some of that very cool velvet paper.

Ginside1

And this is another journal made with that white embossed wrapping paper:
Soutside
Some gorgeous papers in this one.  More inside photos in the shop.

Sandy has finished testing the lesson for weeks 3&4 for my Journaling Techniques class.  She got some fabulous results!   I'm now starting to get weeks 5,6&7 organized and written for her to test.  This class is coming together faster  than I anticipated so there's a chance that I may be able to run it sooner than September.

In case you missed the previous post, registration for the Journal Making for the Fiber Artist online class is now open, click here for all the details!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Black embossed journal & More online class information

Remember the white embossed wrapping paper from this post?  Well now it looks like this:

More photos in the shop.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up for the Journal Making class!   Registration is still open and will stay open until 1 week after class starts.  I had a couple of technical questions about the class that I thought I'd answer here:

How long will lessons be available for download?  They will remain available until 4 weeks after class ends.

I'm a beginning sewer, is this class for me?  Even if you are a beginning sewer and have never made a journal before you'll have no problem making these journals.

How much time will I spend on each weeks lesson?  It's up to you!  You can make your journals with complicated insides or not.  Most of the shells of the journals go together fairly quickly so it's up to you how much time you spend on the insides.

Is this the Journaling Techniques class?  No it's not, read about that class here.

Read more about the class and how to register here.

I will be running the Mixed Media Surfaces for the Fiber Artist class soon.   Sign up for my mailing list here to be notified of when that class is open for registration.
