Last week I made a couple of journals to give as gifts:
I used black ultrasuede on this first one. It was the first time I used a fabric on a hard cover journal and it worked beautifully. The key is from Tinsel Trading and is covered with glass glitter. It really sparkles. The inside has some vellum overlays on hand painted paper:
There are three vellum overlays, one at the beginning of each signature and I've printed some of my favorite quotes about creativity on them and on some of the other pages as well.
I used the Amate bark paper on the outside of this one along with some pewter twigs:
The nice thing about the pewter twigs is that they darken and develop a nice patina after a while. The inside of this one has some nice cream colored paper along with some bark paper pages.
It's a cold gray day here so instead of heading into the studio I'm off to the kitchen. I have a some beautiful organic butternut squash that I picked up in the grocery store this morning that needs to get turned into soup...

Very dramatic - the new journals are amazing.

I love the journals. I have always loved books, and only in the last couple of years started to make them. I really like the idea of the bark pages in the interior of the book. How lovely!
