Restocking

I was all ready to step into the studio on Monday morning to get working on some new projects when I realized that my stash of hand dyed fabric and cheesecloth was virtually non existent.  So I dragged out the dyeing supplies and got to work.  And the results of my labors yesterday...

A new stack of cotton:

and some cheesecloth:

And while all that was either in the washer or the dryer I spent some time experimenting with paper bag surfaces.   My goal was to create a metallic or stone like surface:

This first one almost seems to light up.  I took this without a flash so that light spot that you're seeing is the actual surface of the bag and not a reflection of the flash.

This next one is my favorite:
Surface3

It amazes me how versatile the humble brown paper lunch bag is!

What I've been doing this weekend...(updated old post)

Even though my trip to Houston isn't for a couple of months preparations are already underway.  We've added an additional Make it and Take it class to my schedule so I'll be teaching a mini wrapfolio class on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Part of the class will be making  layered fiber collage surfaces with Mistyfuse and I wanted to have some dyed cheesecloth available for people to use in their collages so I spent yesterday dyeing up 40 yards (yes 40!) of cheesecloth:

Speaking of hand dyed cheesecloth.   If you're not inclined to dye your own you can purchase it in a rainbow of gorgeous colors at Sunny Bunny Designs.

I've also been busy making up a few samples of the mini wrapfolios to bring with me:

The one on the upper left is dyed Mistyfuse with silver foil, the red/gold one is red and black silk dupioni with joss papers.  The bottom left is some hand dyed cheesecloth, novelty yarn and torn mulberry paper and the one on the right is hand dyed cheesecloth, silver flakes and machine stitching.  This next one is done with cheesecloth, paper flowers, soy silk roving and novelty yarns.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
