Done! & some new journals

I just put the finishing touches on the Creative Mixed Media Journaling Techniques class lessons.

I am really looking forward to the start of this class, we're going to have a great time working through all the different techniques in these lessons.   I really packed each lesson with lots of techniques to experiment and play with.   My most sincerest thanks to Sandy for being my official lesson tester for this workshop!

Here they are, all 89 pages bound up nicely in a book all ready for class to start.    Visit my website here to learn more about this class and how to register for it.

I've been working on a stack of journals for the last week and I finished them all up today.

All of these are in the shop here.   This is the last of this style journal for a while.  I've decided to retire this particular style and configuration for now while I work on some new designs.  I have several pages of notes and sketches for new journal styles that I'll be working on over the summer.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Class photos

It's been one of those crazy weeks where every time I sit down I find that I have to get back up and go somewhere so I'm not getting any studio time in at all.    So I don't have any new projects to show you just yet but pop on over to the flickr group I set up and see just a few of the journals that the incredibly talented students in my Journal Making for the Fiber Artist class have created.

Click here to visit the Flickr group.  Students are continuing to add photos so check back often for updates.

Back in a couple of days with some new projects from the studio!

marbeling paper & class announcements

The current session of the Journal Making for the Fiber Artist online class is now closed to registration.  This class will be running again beginning Monday June 2, 2008.  Click here to see the details and to register!

I spent some time yesterday making some marbled papers:

I could have spent all day in the studio doing this!   I did create a nice little stack of papers, much more than what you see here but it's hard to get good photos with the dreary cloudy weather that we've been having.  This marbling technique is one I'll be covering in the Creative Mixed Media Journaling Techniques class.

Have a great weekend everyone!

A new vase

It's amazing what you can do with a little tissue paper and some interfacing.

Vase
I wish I could get a better photo of this.  There are so many shades of copper and bronze it in and there's just a touch of turquoise here and there.   This is a pretty sturdy vase and it stands 12" high.

My Journal Making for the Fiber Artist class is underway and we're having a lot of fun!  There's still time to sign up if you want to join us.  Registration for this class will officially close on Friday of this week.

I am having a lot of fun putting this class together!  I'll have some more sneak peeks for you in a few days.

Meanwhile I have decided to run my Mixed Media Surfaces for the Fiber Artist class.  The class will start on 5/6/08 and runs for 5 weeks.  This workshop will explore using a wide variety of materials and supplies that today’s textile artist can use to create new and innovative surfaces to stitch on.    This class is sure to be a lot of fun as we create a wide range of beautiful mixed media surfaces using items such as tissue paper, gel mediums, soy silk, paper towels, silk caps or hankies, mulberry bark, cling wrap and so much more!  All the lesson details and information on registering are on my website here.

Once you sign up and pay for the class I will email you a supply list and an invite to a special yahoo group.  The lessons will be made available to students on a weekly basis beginning Tuesday May 6, 2008.   You’ll post your questions and photo’s in the yahoo group and you’ll be able to interact with the other students as well. I’ll be available for questions and feedback throughout the day and of course I’m always available through direct email for those not comfortable posting questions in a group setting.  You don't need to have a blog to participate in this class, you just need to have access to email.   Visit my website here to register!

Black embossed journal & More online class information

Remember the white embossed wrapping paper from this post?  Well now it looks like this:

More photos in the shop.

Thanks to everyone who has signed up for the Journal Making class!   Registration is still open and will stay open until 1 week after class starts.  I had a couple of technical questions about the class that I thought I'd answer here:

How long will lessons be available for download?  They will remain available until 4 weeks after class ends.

I'm a beginning sewer, is this class for me?  Even if you are a beginning sewer and have never made a journal before you'll have no problem making these journals.

How much time will I spend on each weeks lesson?  It's up to you!  You can make your journals with complicated insides or not.  Most of the shells of the journals go together fairly quickly so it's up to you how much time you spend on the insides.

Is this the Journaling Techniques class?  No it's not, read about that class here.

Read more about the class and how to register here.

I will be running the Mixed Media Surfaces for the Fiber Artist class soon.   Sign up for my mailing list here to be notified of when that class is open for registration.

Journal making for the Fiber Artist
5 lessons, $50

There’s something about writing or drawing in a journal that you’ve made yourself that makes the experience more enjoyable.  In this class I’m going to show you how to make several different types of journals that you can personalize with your own themes and style.

Five

Lesson 1:      We’ll make a simple wrapped journal this week and you’ll learn how to create and sew in signatures.  I’ll show you how embellish the inside of your journal and how to make pockets that you can fill with journaling tags and note cards.

Lesson 2:      We’re making a unique sketchbook journal this week that has replaceable pages with places for pencils and other drawing tools.

Lesson 3:      You can bind this weeks journal together using either screw posts, ribbons, string or cording and you can embellish your covers with things like twigs, pencils and chopsticks.   I’ll show you lots of different ways to add pockets to your journal pages that can hold tags, photos, memorabilia and cards.

Lesson 4:    I’m going to show you how to turn a brown paper lunch bag into a faux leather journal.   You won’t believe it’s not leather!

Lesson 5:      For our last class we’re going to create a journal that uses a binding technique that will allow you to easily slide new signatures in and out as you use them.

Lessons for this class are delivered in .pdf format.  As each lesson publishes you will receive an email from me with a link to a secure site where you can access the issue and save it to your own computer.  You must have adobe acrobat 5.0 or higher to be able to open the lessons. Adobe acrobat reader is a free software that you can download here.

Also, please note that this class is NOT the Mixed Media for the Fiber Artist Class or the Mixed Media Journaling Techniques class.  Read more about those classes on my website  here.

Weaving and a wrapfolio

The latest issue of Handwoven arrived in my mailbox yesterday:
Cover
I've got two articles in this issue.  A yoga mat carrier:
Yoga
A a tote bag made from silk sari yarn along with a padfolio:
Sari
They did a wonderful job photographing the projects and laying out the articles.  It's a real priviledge for me to be in this magazine.

And here we have a new wrapfolio:
Wrap

I'm going to be teaching how to make a mini version of one of these in Houston in a Make and Take class along with how to make the layered surface as well.  As soon as I have the class times confirmed I'll post them.

Have a great weekend everyone!
