In my last post I mentioned that I was taking Martha Lever's Calligra-fun online class so I thought I'd share some of the practice samples I've made. Now keep in mind that the class just started a few days ago and up until now the only person who was able to read my handwriting is me! I've been dedicating an hour or so each day to practicing my strokes and letters and then I decided I would start a sketchbook and pick a word or phrase to write and illustrate just to keep it fun and keep me motivated to practice. Here's what I've done so far:
day 1:
day 2:
(I guess I don't need to tell you what the weather was like on day 2)
My letters aren't perfect and I've got a long way to go but I'm having such fun with it that I'm going to stick with it because you know what they say...
day 3:Have a great weekend everybody!
Sue - your calligraphy looks really really good. I used to do calligraphy many years ago and have been thinking about getting back into it - but I like this style much better than the really formal style I learned so long ago. Are you pleased with the class?

It's very many years since I did any calligraphy Sue, but it was not creative calligraphy like you're doing. You have sent me down yet another exciting road, but not just yet as I have too many things going just now.

Your lettering looks good to me-much better than my chicken scratches.

Well look at you go! Isn't this a blast?! Can't wait for more pens to get here. I'm addicted and ordered more on Friday. ;)

Sue these are great! Reminds me that I have some pens and should add some calligraphy to my journals. I love the illustrations too. What a fun class this must be.

Gorgeous work Sue! I'm taking Martha's class, too and I love it. I don't have anything to "show", yet but I hope it will be soon. Also-I scrolled down to see the wonderful box. . . and the batik! Oh, I am such a fan of batik, I like to do faux batik looks on paper. Anyway, I'll be back for more. Thank you for sharing! Your work is beautiful!

Wow, what a difference between day 2 and 3. Very occasionally I teach italic and I can really see the difference. I tell my students that 20 minutes a day, every day is the way to go. Don't know if they believe me, but practice SHOWS!
