How's that for a nondescript title?! I know I haven't posted in a while but I have been working on some things. I managed to get my Initiatives quilt finished but unfortunately I can't show you that yet - you'll have to wait for the big reveal day on 1/15/09 on the Fiberactions blog to see it. With that project out of the way I've been working on this new fabric collage quilt:
This is a pretty big one measuring about 36"x45". It's tough to get a photo of with it laying flat, I took this one standing over it. Not really the best angle for taking a photo. All the pieces have been stitched in place and I'm about to start adding some background stitching to it. I've already started working on another one:
This one is just in the beginning stages and has a long way to go still...

Geometric 1 - 19"x33", Mistyfuse'd raw edge appliqué, machine quilted. This picture doesn't really do it much justice, it's much more exciting in person.
I really enjoyed putting this piece together which is why I've labeled it "1". I think I will do a series of quilted fabric collages in this style.
how's that for a blog post title? I've got a bunch of stuff to post about so that seemed to be the most fitting title.

I put the finishing touches on another quilt this morning:
"night blooms" 22"x26" I am finding that with each quilt I finish I learn something new. With this one I learned that there really is a difference in quilt battings and I found one that I will not use again!
Speaking of quilts... I along with 12 other fiber artists have formed a new challenge group called Fiberactions.
Every two months we each create a new quilt measuring 16"x20" based on a theme chosen by one of us. You can follow our progress on our new blog here where you'll also find a list of all of the artists in the group.
You know I thought books and journals were hard to photograph but they've got nothing on trying to get a good photo of a wall quilt!
This one is 22"x30", machine quilted and painted with Golden Fluid Acrylics and Lumiere paints.
Clearly I need to designate an area in the house where I can hang a quilt to photograph it.
I would be interested in hearing from others who photograph their wall quilts - how do you do it?

Lately I have been doing a lot of experimenting with working with a flat quilted surface. Working flat with the intention that the finished product will hang on the wall is a challenge for me because I'm used to working with either functional objects with structure like books and boxes. I am enjoying it though because it's a new challenge and I do love a challenge...

I have always been drawn to the number three and I recently did a little research into what the meaning behind "3" is. Here's what I found:
The spiritual meaning of number Three deals with magic, intuition, fecundity, and advantage. The number Three invokes expression, versatility, and pure joy of creativity. Three is also a time identifier as it represents Past, Present and Future. Consecutive Threes in your life may symbolize the need to express yourself creatively, or consider your present directional path in relation to past events and future goals. Three may also represent promising new adventures, and assurance of cooperation from others whom you may require help. Three typically symbolizes reward and success in most undertakings.
I thought that was pretty interesting and it certainly explains why I've always used a grouping of three when I create something.
